 Indoor Soccer Rules
Teams:
  1. Each team will consist of six players (two women and four men for co-ed) on the floor including the keeper. A minimum of four players (including at least two women for co-ed) must be present to start at game time. The team can have a maximum of 12 players on the team roster. Eligible participants include all current IWU students, faculty, staff and administrators, and their spouses.
  2. Failure to have your team on the court within 5 minutes after the scheduled starting time will result in a forfeit. Forfeiting a game will result in placing the team on "warning" status. A second forfeit will result in the team being removed from the league.

  3. Varsity Level Experience:
A team may have ONE senior graduate from the current school year’s team. All others are ineligible.
Equipment:
  1. The Intramural Sports Program will provide the official game soccer balls and goals.
  2. Participants are required to provide their own shin guards, goalie gloves (if desired), and indoor soccer shoes. Indoor training shoes or sneakers that do not mark the floor are required. Please do not wear playing shoes from outside to avoid debris damaging the floor.
  3. Teams will be given a team color at the captain’s meeting.
Rules of the Game:
  1. Goals used will be 8’ x 12’ with nets. Penalty area will be defined by floor marking. Regulation ball (size 5) will be used.
  2. The game shall consist of two 18-minute halves with a three-minute halftime. The clock will run continuously including penalty kicks and will only be stopped for time-outs, injuries, or at the discretion of the referee.
  3. One time-out will be awarded per team per game. A time-out will be one minute in length and may only be called during a dead ball.
  4. During regular season play, all ties will remain that way.
  5. During playoffs, there will be one five-minute overtime period. At the end of the five-minute period, if the score is still tied, penalty shots will follow. Each team will take five shots and if the score remains tied each team will alternate shots until a winner has been decided. Any player on the team may take the penalty shots whether they are on the field of play or not.
  6. Unlimited substitutions will be allowed with substitutions made on the fly.
  7. There will be no slide tackles, or sliding at any time. A direct free kick will be awarded.
  8. The offsides rule will not be in effect.
  9. Flagrant fouls/persistent fouls may result in a two-minute penalty with the offending team playing short-handed.
  10. Foul and/or abusive language will not be tolerated.
  11. On all free kicks the opposition must stand 10 feet from the ball.
  12. The ball can be played off the sides or end walls. Balls hitting on or above the elevated track railing will result in a kick in, goal kick, or corner kick. Balls hitting backboards, baskets, cages, lights, or ceiling are out of play and a direct free kick will result from the spot from which the ball was last played.
  13. No player may enter the goal box to play a ball or gain advantage on a ball outside of the goal box. If a player passes through the goal box and does not affect normal play, then no foul will be called.
  14. If a goal results from the deflection of the ball off a defensive player who is in the goal box, it will be judged a goal.
  15. A goal kick or corner kick will be awarded if ball is lodged on top of our behind the goal.
  16. Penalty kicks will be awarded for violent fouls or hand balls inside the penalty area and for breakaway fouls. Kick will be taken from penalty spot.
