 Outdoor Soccer Rules
Teams:
1. Each team will consist of seven players (two women and five men for co-ed) on the floor including the keeper. A minimum of five players (including at least two women for co-ed) must be present to start at game time. The team can have a maximum of 14 players on the team roster. Eligible participants include all current IWU students, faculty, staff and administrators, and their spouses.
2. Failure to have your team on the field within 5 minutes after the scheduled starting time will result in a forfeit. Forfeiting a game will result in placing the team on "warning" status. A second forfeit will result in the team being removed from the league.
Varsity Level Experience:
1. A team may have only 2 players with prior varsity level soccer experience within the last two years. No current school year soccer players may participate. The Director of Campus Recreation has the ultimate decision with this rule.
Equipment:
1. The Intramural Sports Program will provide the official game soccer balls and goals.
2. Teams will be assigned a team color.
3. Participants are required to provide their own shin guards, goalie gloves (if desired), and soccer shoes. NO METAL SPIKES ALLOWED.
Rules of the Game:
1. Regulation college soccer goals will be used. Regulation ball (size 5) will be used.
2. The game shall consist of two 20-minute halves with a five-minute halftime. The clock will run continuously including penalty kicks and will only be stopped for time-outs, injuries, or at the discretion of the referee.
3. One time-out will be awarded per team per game. A time-out will be one minute in length and may only be called during a dead ball.
4. If the score is tied at the end of regulation, penalty kicks will follow. Each team will take five shots (5 players-3 and 2 with co-ed) and if the score remains tied each team will alternate shots until a winner has been decided. Any player on the team may take the penalty shots whether they are on the field of play or not.
5. Substitutes must report and be recognized by the official. There is no limit to the number of substitutions during a game.
6. There will be no slide tackles, or sliding at any time. A direct free kick will be awarded.
7. Offsides will be called. Penalty: Indirect free kick from spot of foul.
8. Flagrant fouls/persistent fouls may result in a two-minute penalty with the offending team playing short-handed.
9. On all free kicks the opposition must stand 10 yards from the ball.
10. If a goal results from the deflection of the ball off a defensive player who is in the goal box, it will be judged a goal.
